Method 1: Reset Using Security Questions

If you had previously set security questions during initial setup:

  1. Power on your DVR.

  2. At the login screen, click “Forgot Password”.

  3. Select “Security Questions”.

  4. Answer all the questions correctly.

  5. Set a new password immediately.

For newer DAHUA devices that support the P2P Cloud:

  3. Open the DMSS app on your smartphone (linked to the same account).

  4. Tap Reset Password, then Scan QR Code.

  5. Enter your linked email or phone number for verification.

  6. A reset code or link is sent — use it to set your new password.

Method 3: Reset Using ConfigTool (Official Dahua Tool)

If you didn’t enable questions or email recovery, use DAHUA’s official ConfigTool (for Windows).

Steps:

  1. Download and install DAHUA ConfigTool.

  2. Connect the DVR and PC to the same local network.

  3. Launch ConfigTool. It auto-detects all DAHUA devices.

  4. Select your device → click Forgot Password.

  5. You’ll get 3 options:

    • Export XML file

    • QR code via email

    • Security questions (if set)

Choose Export XML:

  • Save the file.

  • You’ll receive a reset file or temporary password within 1 working day.

  • Import it into ConfigTool to change the password.

Some older DAHUA analog DVRs (around 2014–2017) allow hardware resets.

  1. Power off the DVR.

  3. Locate a small reset button (near the motherboard battery).

  4. Hold it down.

  5. Power on the DVR while holding the reset button for 30 seconds.

  6. Wait till the device reboots and login using:

    • Username: admin

    • Password: (empty or 123456)
