🔐 UNV DVR/NVR Password Reset

UNV DVR/NVR Password Reset – Complete Guide by Wisdom of Nikitis Tech Hub

Getting locked out of your UNV (Uniview) DVR or NVR can be frustrating — especially when you’re in the middle of an installation or security audit. I’ve worked with multiple UNV systems across homes and businesses, and I can confidently say: there’s always a clean way out.

In this post, I’ll walk you through real, field-tested methods to reset your UNV DVR/NVR password, with clear steps that even a non-technical user can follow.

What Makes UNV Password Reset Unique?

Unlike some brands, UNV has tight password security, especially on its newer systems. While this keeps unauthorized users out, it also means you need to follow the exact reset process based on your device’s setup:

✅ GUI-based reset
✅ Mobile App/Email-based reset
✅ Password Reset File via support
✅ Security questions (if enabled)

Let’s explore them step-by-step.

Method 1: Reset via Security Questions (If Previously Set)

If you or your technician enabled security questions during setup, you're in luck.

Steps:

  1. On the login screen, click "Forgot Password".

  2. Select “Security Questions”.

  3. Answer them exactly as set during the initial configuration.

  4. Create your new password and save.

💡 Wisdom’s Advice: Always encourage clients to activate security questions. It’s the easiest backup reset method.

Method 2: Reset via Email & Mobile App (EZView App)

For newer UNV devices linked to a cloud account via EZView mobile app:

  1. Open the UNV device login screen.

  2. Click "Forgot Password".

  3. Choose “Reset via Email”.

  4. A QR code will appear.

  5. On your phone:

    • Open EZView App.

    • Tap the + icon → Scan QR Code.

    • Confirm your identity via email/phone.

  6. A reset link or temporary code will be sent to your email or app.

Set a new strong password and reboot your device.

🔐 Pro Tip from Wisdom: Always link your DVR to a valid email or mobile number during installation. It's a lifesaver later.

Method 3: Reset via Encrypted File – Through Official UNV Support or Installer

If the above methods fail (for example, no email set and security questions are disabled), you’ll need to generate a reset file and send it to UNV support or your authorized distributor.

Here’s how:

  1. On the login screen, click "Forgot Password".

  2. Choose “Export Password Reset File”.

  3. Insert a USB drive into the DVR.

  4. Export the file to USB.

  5. Send the file to your UNV distributor or installer (or contact me directly at Nikitis Tech Hub).

  6. They will return a reset file within 1–2 business days.

  7. Insert the reset file back into the DVR via USB.

  8. Your password will reset or allow a one-time login.

⚠️ Make sure the DVR remains powered on and date/time remains unchanged after the file export. Any change may invalidate the reset file.

Method 4: Using Uniview CMS Software (For Installers & Admins)

If you're managing a network of UNV devices using EZStation (CMS software):

  1. Connect the DVR to your local network.

  2. Open EZStation on your PC.

  3. Navigate to the DVR device under device management.

  4. Try the Remote Reset or Password Recovery feature (available in updated versions).

  5. Follow on-screen instructions.

🖥️ This method is mostly useful for system admins managing multiple UNV cameras/NVRs centrally.

What If None of These Work?

Don’t panic. You may be using:

  • A very old firmware version

  • A system locked by an installer

  • A device that wasn’t activated properly

📞 In such cases, I offer professional UNV reset services:

  • 🔌 Remote access reset via TeamViewer

  • 🛠️ On-site reset for Lagos/Nigeria-based clients

  • 📦 Firmware recovery if needed

After Reset: Don’t Make These Mistakes Again

To avoid getting locked out in the future, I always recommend these steps for clients after every reset:

🔐 Set a strong password (Use numbers, uppercase, lowercase, symbols)
📲 Link your DVR to EZView App
📧 Add a recovery email/phone number
Enable security questions
📤 Keep your reset/export file safe

Common Questions from My Clients

Q: I scanned the QR code, but didn’t get an email.
📌 Check if your DVR was linked to an email during setup. If not, that method won’t work.

Q: My reset file was rejected. Why?
⚠️ You may have powered off or changed the date/time. Restart the process and keep the device stable.

Q: Can I do this without internet access?
Yes, only the USB reset file method works offline. Others require an internet connection.
